سوريةُ ... أهلي وأهلوكِ دوماً في القلب موضعهم
وربوعك طبعتْ خيالها على الأحداقِ صبابا

Oh Syria, my family and yours are always placed in the heart
And your beauty stamped its shadow on the cornea with love

سورية حدثيني عن نفسك وعنِ التاريخ !
من منكما بنى للآخر أبراجاً وقبابا

Oh Syria, talk to me about yourself and
about History
Who did build towers and domes to the other?

على مقاعد إيبلا علمت العالم كيف يكتب
وبأبجدية شمرا فتحت له على المستقبل الأبوابا

I taught the world how to write on the desks of Ebla (kingdom)
And by the Shamra (historic site) Alphabet, I took him to the future

وماري مملكةٌ ماكانَ لها في الدنيا مثيلٌ
مابنيت مثل مدنها مدناً ولا صنعت كعطورها أطيابا

Mary was a Kingdom like no other
Her cities were like no others, and so her perfumes

تحت كل موطئٍ من تربتي كنزٌ يصرخُ
" أنقذوني تنالوا من حضاراتي ثوابا "

Underneath every foot of my soil, there is a treasure that cries
"Save me, and you will be blessed by my civilizations"

وتدمرُ عروسُ الصحراء لايشبهها على الأرض مكانٌ
نصفها كنوز مجدٍ ونصفها كنوز حضاراتٍ مهابة

Palmira is a "Deserts Bride" like no other place on earth
With incredible treasures of both glory and civilizations

عشرات القلاع رفعتها صروحاً في كل مكان
حلب تحمي دمشق ، والحصن تحرس جعبر والمرقابا

I raised tens of citadels as monuments every where
Aleppo protects Damascus, Al Husen guards Jaaber and Mirkaba

أنا سورية ولأبنائي انحنى العالم إجلالاً
حلَّقت أسماؤهم في آفاق الأرض أسرابا

I am Syria, the whole world bowed down respecting my children
Their names circled the horizons like flocks of birds

وبصرى درة من درر الأرض
إن أناب التاريخ عنه مدينة ، فبصرى من أنابا

Busra (historic city) is a jewel of the earth
If History would choose a deputy, Busra is whom he assigns

كل الأديان مرت يوماً من عندي
كل الأديان ترى في نفسها إليًّ إنتسابا

All the divine religions passed by me through time
So they all see themselves related to me

كلُ الأنبياء وقعوا حضورهم على دفتري
وكثيرٌ وجدوا في تُرَبي مَهاجعاً رحابا

All the prophets signed my guest book
And many of them found nice beds (graves) in my soil

المعمدانُ يرتاح في مسجدي
وفي الجوارِ جمعٌ من أهل البيتِ والصحابةْ

John the Baptist is resting in my mosque (of Damascus)
And many of the prophets family and companions

دمشق من دعاها بوابة التاريخ أنصفها
ومن خاطبها بدُرة الشرقِ ، أحسنَ الخطابا

Who named Damascus the Gate of History was fair to her
And who addressed her as the Jewel of the Orient was right

نعم أنا سوريةُ وإن سألني التاريخُ عن سر عزّتي
أقول له أمثالُ هؤلاء يعرفون الجوابا

Yes I am Syria, and if History asks about the secret of my Glory
I say to him "The people I named know the answer"

أقوامٌ أتتْ وأحضرت حضاراتها معها
تركت وراءها صروحاً أدهشتِ الألبابا

Nations came carrying their civilizations with monumentsthem
They left behind astonishing

حضاراتٌ ذهبتْ وتركت في قيثارتي أوتاراً
رقصَ التاريخُ على أنغامها العَتابة

Civilizations passed but left strings in my lyric
History danced Al-Attaba (Syrian song) at its music
